Members of the 6 April Youth Movement protested outside the Egyptian embassy in Paris on Tuesday.

In a statement the group said that the protesters in Paris were “demanding justice for the martyr Gaber ‘Jika’ Salah… and for all martyrs in Egypt”. Jika was killed during clashes on Mohamed Mahmoud Street last November.

Around 20 protesters held flags depicting Jika’s face and other flags with the 6 April logo. The protestors called for the Egyptian Deputy Prosecutor General to be replaced and “warned of the continued targeting of activists and revolutionaries”.

Khaled El Masry, spokesperson for the group, said that “the protest was held to show the world that the martyrs of the Egyptian revolution have not been forgotten”. He added that the group hopes this was the beginning of global protests. “We will continue in Europe for now. This is part of our escalation; it is international now,” El Masry said.

El Masry added that the group is attempting to gain the correct permits to stage protests in a number of countries. He said that there are hundreds of members living abroad in many countries.

El Masry informed Daily News Egypt of the group’s plan to escalate its methods of peaceful demonstration in February. The escalation began in Cairo itself with a march in February during which the group painted the steps of the High Court red to symbolise the blood of Jika and others who have died.
