Fire broke out in the Talaat Harb mall in Downtown Cairo, destroying dozens of shops on three separate levels. According to state-run Al-Ahram, the fire is believed to have started on the third floor, eventually spreading to the floors above. The fire is said to have spread rather quickly due to the presence of highly flammable goods in the shops.

Prosecutors have launched an investigation in order to determine whether the fire was accidental or deliberately conceived. Traffic jams in the area delayed the arrival of fire trucks.
