An Israeli delegation arrived in Cairo on Wednesday to hold meetings with Egyptian officials.

Paul Hirschson, spokesperson for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign affairs, confirmed to Daily News Egypt that an Israeli delegation had come to Cairo. He was unable to confirm the names of people in the delegation or its size.

Hirschson said that the visit is part of the ongoing relationship between Egypt and Israel. “This is a normal occurrence when two countries explore bi-lateral relations,” he said.

Egyptian media reported that Amira Dotan was heading the delegation as the head of the Middle East department for the Israeli ministry. Hirschson refuted this claim, saying that Dotan is not part of the Israeli foreign ministry.

He also rejected the claim that this is the first visit by a foreign ministry official to Egypt since the 25 January revolution, pointing out that the Israeli ambassador is a foreign ministry official.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was not available for comment.
