Earlier this month, Homeland Security banned the film Jews of Egypt from being shown in Egypt. However, it was announced today that it will be screened in cinemas on 27 March. Director Amir Ramses spoke to us in a cheerful mood, in contrast to our previous encounter with him, he laughed throughout the conversation.

“It is correct; the movie will be shown on 27 March,” he confirmed. We asked him why the ministry changed its mind, and he answered: “Obviously because of huge media attention and because the movie’s case became an international scandal. Their assault on the law was clear and their position [in the eyes of] the NGOs and the international community was bad. It was the first time that the head of the Press Syndicate was involved in a lawsuit against the Ministry of Culture.”
