Political activist and former military detainee Sambo was beaten and arrested by security forces on Saturday, according to No Military Trials.

Mohamed Gad Al-Rab, known as Sambo, was working at his garage in Sharabiya district of Cairo when investigative police forces attacked and beat him before taking him to the Al-Ameriya Police Station, according to Amr Emam, a human rights lawyer.

Security forces at the police station tortured Sambo through the night before sending him to the prosecution office on Sunday morning for investigation, according to Emam. “So far, no one has informed us of the charges pressed against Sambo. I will head to the Al-Ameriya Police Station to inquire about everything,” said Emam.

Maha Ma’moun, member of No Military Trials group, affirmed that Sambo was arrested, but denied having any further information.

The Ministry of Interior could not be reached for comment.

Sambo was previously arrested during clashes with police forces on 28 and 29 of June 2011, and is considered one of the most prominent protesters sentenced by a military court. He was released in August 2012 by President Morsi, alongside several other detainees.
