Alaa and Gamal Mubarak reimbursed EGP 1.4m worth of illegal gifts received from the state-owned newspaper Al Gomhoreya.

The Mubarak family has so far repaid the three state-owned newspapers Al Ahram, Al Akhbar and Al Gomohoreya EGP 31m for the period from 2007 to 2011. Mubarak’s sons have further expressed their commitment in repaying any other funds based on the outcome of investigations.

Former production manager of Al Ahram, Saad El Halawany, stated during the investigations that there is manipulation in the case files to hide “the facts” and that new defendant names will emerge in the investigation.

Ousted president Hosni Mubarak and former prime minister Ahmed Nazif will also be summoned on charges of receiving illegal gifts worth EGP 1.4 m for Mubarak and EGP 200,000 for Nazif.

The illegal gifts case included 26 members of the former regime, 13 of whom were reported by the public funds prosecutor Mohamed Al-Naggar to have repaid the value of the illegal gifts during the second session of the trial.
