Salafi preacher and television presenter Abdallah Badr was sentenced to six months in jail on Tuesday for insulting television host Amr El-Leithy. Al-Zawaya Al-Hamra Misdemeanors Court also fined him EGP 10,000 setting his bail at EGP 2,000, according to state-owned Al-Ahram.

El-Leithy, a former presidential advisor to Mohamed Morsi, filed a complaint against Badr last year after the Salafi preacher called him a “procurer and son of a procurer” when discussing his selection as an advisor.

Badr made the remarks in a mosque, and footage of his comments were recorded and had circulated on different social media sites.

Badr was handed a sentence of one year in jail and fined EGP 20,000 in December for defaming actress Elham Shahin. He made the comments during a talk show on Salafi Al-Hafez satellite channel, accusing the actress of being “immoral”.
