New features for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 gaming console are expected to be launched within the coming weeks, the latest move in the protracted war between video game giants Sony and Microsoft.

Microsoft stated that new developments for the console would not be limited to upgrades in particular specifications, or the release of more exclusive games, but would rather be geared toward providing additional services to customers and increasing their comfort level during the gaming experience.

New developments would include the “Smart Glass” feature, a new touch-activated technology that will allow customers to examine maps and customise weapons in a number of games, in addition to the “Connect 2” feature, which will employ voice command technology when controlling player movements, while allowing up to four persons to play on one screen.

Another new feature will allow users to participate and take part in online multi-player gaming without the need to first purchase subscriptions. Officials from Xbox stated that until now users were required to purchase a three-month subscription to Xbox Live in order to participate in online multi-player games, despite users having already paid an estimated total of $50m on games themselves.

The new Xbox 360 phone feature is yet another development that could help Microsoft better compete with its rival Sony. However rumours regarding the release of this new technology have not yet been confirmed.
