Dozens of people injured during the revolution protested on Wednesday near the High Court building in Cairo against the South Cairo Criminal Court’s decision to acquit former president Hosni Mubarak on charges of killing protesters, pending a retrial.
The protesters expressed their refusal of the court’s decision, and described it as shocking and wasting the goals of the revolution, according to state-owned Al-Ahram.
Meanwhile, security forces guarded the High Court building in anticipation of any violent acts by the protesters.
Asma’ El-Geredly, who works on cases involving injured revolutionaries, claimed that Mubarak’s trial was a merely a show from the very beginning, adding that all former regime figures would be acquitted soon. “The current ruling regime is giving ‘safe exit’ to corrupt figures of the former regime. It is resuming the corrupt path of the Mubarak’s regime and getting worse every day.”
The activists injured during the revolution are in pain, not because of their injuries, but because they were injured for nothing, El-Geredly said.
The South Cairo Criminal Court ruled on 15 April to acquit former president Mubarak on charges of killing protesters pending his retrial. However, Mubarak was not released as he also faces corruption charges.
