A delegation from Al-Nour Party is scheduled to travel to the United States soon as part of an introductory tour for the party.

The delegation will travel to the US around the same time a delegation from the Al-Da’awa Al-Salafia group is expected to visit.

The Al-Nour delegation will meet with Egyptian expatriates living in the US and explain the current political situation in Egypt to them. Amr Mekki, the party’s deputy chairman for foreign affairs, said the visit specifically targets efficient Egyptians who immigrated to the US after the revolution.

“We want to be in contact with those people and to devise a way for them to help Egypt,” Mekki said. He added that the visit also aims to introduce the party to Egyptian expatriates and clear up any confusion they have about Egyptian politics.

“We received no invitations from any governmental or political institutions in the US,” Mekki said.

Party spokesperson Nader Bakkar said that the party would be happy to accept invitations from American politicians during their visit. “We are ready to answer any questions they might have about the party’s activities,” he said.

Mekki stated that Al-Da’awa Al-Salafia received invitations from Islamic organisations in the US. “Egyptian Islamists are yearning to meet their Islamist preaching masters,” he said.

Only two members of the party delegation have been granted visas to the US, Mekki said. The visit has therefore been postponed until the rest of the delegation gets their visas. “The visit is not related to the parliamentary elections,” Mekki said. “It might take part after the elections are over.”

Mekki stated that other visits were also scheduled to be included in the party’s tour. The visits include North African countries such as Tunisia, Libya and Morocco and European countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria and Spain.

Mekki is visiting Dubai alongside Bakkar next week to attend the International Conference on Tourism. Afterwards, both party leaders will head to Brussels to take part in the European Union Parliament sessions.
