Halawa
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 tsp lemon
Put the water and sugar in a pan on low heat.
Wait until the sugar melts and the mixture thickens up. It should resemble a thick, sticky, but quite translucent wax, but not look like caramel. If it resembles caramel, then you heated it too much and all you can do is start again.
Take the pan off the heat and add the lemon and stir well.
Let the mixture cool down until warm and remove from the pan. Knead until soft and use.
The following recipe will soothe a sore throat and heal pockets in and inflammations of the gums.
Cinnamon mouthwash
Yields one litre
1/4 cup cinnamon powder
1/2 cup honey
1 litre water; boiled and then left to cool down to warm.
Juice of two lemons
Pour the warm water in a container that can be closed tightly.
Add the cinnamon, honey and lemon juice.
Shake well.
Use the mixture after it has cooled down completely.
For best results it is recommended to use the mouthwash once in the morning and once at night.
