Citizens will be allowed to obtain unlimited amounts of bread in light of high consumption rates during the Sham El-Nessim period, said Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, the director of the Cairo Supply Directorate.
Regulatory oversight would be tightened for the governorate’s bakeries and bread vendors, he said, in order to ensure that necessary amounts of bread were made available to citizens for the holiday.
The governorate’s regulatory authorities have so far apprehended 6.5 tonnes of smoked fish that were either expired or did not provide information regarding their expiration date.
One tonne of expired poultry was also apprehended by authorities.
The governorate’s diesel crisis was described as “stable”, with areas such as Al-Nozha, Nasr City and Al-Da’iri claiming that they would not require additional fuel shipments.
Regarding flour prices, Aziz stated that 1,400 bakeries, 97% of the country’s 1,455 bakeries, had converted to the country’s new price system so far.
