Officials from the United States and Egypt recently met to discuss Suez Canal development opportunities.
The meeting over the Suez Canal Corridor Project was attended by Walid Abdel Ghafar, head of the project’s technical committee; Denise Siemens, commercial liaison to the American Embassy in Cairo; and Catherine Mishur, a representative of USAID.
The American delegation expressed their readiness to cooperate with the Egyptian government on the project by helping to conduct quality design reviews and contributing to the drafting of terms and conditions for Egypt’s various pending development projects.
Abdel Ghafar pointed out that the Suez Canal Corridor Project was part of a broader Sinai development plan belonging to the government’s Nahda (Renaissance) programme, and is considered one of the country’s largest projects currently operating and under review.
He added that such projects would help put Egypt on the world economic map, as well as enabling it to better exploit its unique geographic location and wealth of natural resources for the benefit of its workers.
