Farmers of the Alwea’am agricultural project started the apple harvest season on 5 June under the sponsorship of Alwea’am charitable society, which has so far supervised the project.

“Today we open the harvest season in the agriculture project that was supervised by the society and with participation of some of its employees,” said Mohammed Abu Marei, the head of the society.

Abu Marei added: “We expect that this year’s crop to be about two tonnes of excellent apples.”

The Alwea’am head ensured that the society will continue its effort to finance such sustainable projects. He explained that the projects improve farmers’ conditions, and calls attention of concerned authorities and global institutions to contribute to the support of agricultural projects.

The society has three agricultural projects on an area of 55 acres planted with citrus, almond, olive and palm trees.  These kinds of projects employ many of farmers whose farms were destroyed in the northern area of the Gaza Strip.
