A number of unidentified electronic designers have together launched a new mobile phone game under the name of “Tamarod” in tandem with the eponymous nationwide campaign organised by opponents of President Mohamed Morsi.
The game shows a figure running across the street collecting signatures while fighting off sheep. The docile animal has become emblematic among the opposition to refer to the president’s supporters, who they have ridiculed for alleged “blind obedience” to Morsi’s rule.
During the game, which runs on the Android smartphone’s operating system, the player hears excerpts of Morsi’s speeches, which have stirred mockery among his critics, whenever a sheep shows up.
Tamarod spokesperson Mai Wahba denied reports that the campaign is behind the game. “I heard about it, but we are not the creator,” she said.
The Tamarod campaign is aiming to challenge Morsi’s legitimacy ahead of the 30 June protests by gathering at least 15 million signatures, according to spokesperson Mahmoud Badr. Morsi’s opponents are calling for massive protests on 30 June, marking the end of his first year in power, in an attempt to pressure the president to step down and call for early presidential elections.
