One person was killed after armed assailants attacked an army checkpoint in Gowra, Sinai on Saturday night, according to the media office of the Armed Forces.
The media office said the assailants, who were driving three Toyota Land Cruisers, refused to stop and shot at the checkpoint. In response, the army opened fire killing one of the assailants, according to the media office.
According to state run Al-Ahram, the unnamed assailant who was killed was 36 years old, and was shot in his head and chest. Al-Ahram added that his body was transferred to the hospital in Sheikh Zuweid.
