The popular social networking website launched its new feature “stickers” in April, as part of Facebook’s aggressive strategy to engage its young users.
Stickers are emotions that can be used in private messages, and they are available on the web as well as iOS and Android devices.
According to Techcrunch, the sticker initiative was introduced by Sophie Xie, a former product and art designer at Facebook.
The goal of the new feature was to boost Facebook’s messaging features ,while engaging the young users with cartoon characters; in addition to classic happy or sad faces, the feature includes characters from movies like Despicable Me.
Facebook collaborated on the project with UC Berkeley researchers, bringing in outside designers such as artist David Lanham to create new designs and enhance the regular emotions.
Users can download up to 15 packs of stickers from Facebook’s store for free.
