The transport of fuel and supply goods throughout Egypt has been running smoothly and has not been affected by the past week’s nationwide protests, according Magda Hussein, first representative of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.
Hussein told state-run MENA that the extended period for the ministry to distribute fuel and supply rations to citizens for the month of June ended on Sunday. The ministry had previously decided to extend this period to ensure citizens had access to their share of supplies.
Hussein added that she would attempt to provide free pasta and bean supplies to holders of government smart cards. The government had previously announced that it would provide, free of cost, a kilogram of beans and bag of dry pasta to families consisting of one to two individuals, while families consisting of three to four individuals would obtain one kilogram of beans and two bags of pasta.
Families consisting of five or more individuals would obtain one and a half kilograms of beans and three bags of pasta.
Hussein further stated that the winner of the tender to distribute 18,000 tons of beans would be announced Sunday. Meanwhile the company Macaroni Queen had already been chosen to distribute an additional 13,000 tons of pasta.
