AFP – A road accident killed 15 soldiers and injured another 40 early on Sunday in Egypt’s Nile Delta province of Beheira, a security source told AFP.

Their bus collided with a lorry on a highway in the province, leaving 15 of them dead and another 40 injured, the source said.

The bus had been travelling on the El-Alamein highway when the accident took place. The lorry driver survived the crash.

Bad driving and lax reinforcement of traffic regulations are also blamed for the high frequency of road accidents in Egypt.

However, Egyptians have also long complained that the government has failed to deal with chronic transport problems, with both roads and train lines poorly maintained.
