Claims that shipping agreements between Egypt and Turkey have been frozen are inaccurate, according to the chairman of the Red Sea Ports Authority, who says shipping throughout Egypt is operating as usual.
Speaking to Daily News Egypt on Tuesday, Muhammad Abd al-Qadr Gabullah said Turkish freight is being shipped through Egyptian ports as normal.
Ports in both Damietta and Port Said recently received freight from Turkey, he said. The cargo was then trucked to Adabiya Port in Suez, where it was shipped via the Rose Garden shipping liner to Dhiba Port in Saudi Arabia. A total of 107 freight containers were transported.
Meanwhile, 9,400 tonnes of butane arrived at the El-Zeiteya Port in Sinai Peninsula from Saudi Arabia he said, in addition to 12,000 general express goods transported from Aqaba in Jordan to Adabiya Port in Egypt.
Meanwhile, 950 pilgrims reportedly left the port of Safaga on Tuesday heading to the Saudi Arabian port of Yanbu for Umra. An additional 470 pilgrims left Nuweiba for Aqaba via boat, with the intent of performing Umra via land.
