The Supreme Judicial Council on Tuesday asked Minister of Justice Adel Abdel Hamid to investigate the Judges for Egypt movement, accusing them of breaking judiciary law, Aswat-Masriya reported.
The accusation comes after the movement showed support for ousted president Mohamed Morsi at the Rabaa Al-Adaweya protest calling for Morsi’s return. This has in turn been taken as evidence of bias towards a single political faction and interference in the political process, which is forbidden according to judiciary law.
The Supreme Judicial Council asked Abdel Hamid to investigate the movement only after several judges complained to the council about the movement’s actions.
The Committee for the Defence of Judges and Public Prosecution also asked the board of directors of judicial inspection to investigate Chancellor Waleed Sharaby, the movement’s spokesman, accusing him of insulting judges and expressing his political views, which is prohibited for judges.
