The Egyptian Universities Workers’ Fund (EUWF) urged Minister of Higher Education Hossam Eissa to meet with and consider the financial situation of workers in universities in a Tuesday statement.
Many of the financial demands included in the statement follow studies conducted by the university worker representatives in cooperation with a Supreme Council of Universities committee that showed that workers in universities had been “promised unrealistic wage increases.”
They also demanded a 150% to 200% increase in the incentives (bonuses) for university staff.
EUWF called for lifting a previous ban which prevented the Prime Minister from raising university incentives to 200% in July 2011.
The statement concluded by stressing the importance of improving workers’ wages in universities.
