Air traffic at the Sharm El-Sheikh airport decreased 20% over the last two days compared to the same time last year as a result of protests and violence seen throughout the country.
This is compared to relative stability of flights seen at the Hurghada International Airport.
Gad Al-Karim Nasr, chairman of the Egyptian Airports Company, said air traffic at the Sharm El-Sheikh airport has fallen in the last two days as a result of political turmoil in the country.
The Sharm El-Sheikh airport on Monday serviced a total of 22,500 passengers departing and arriving, compared to 21,700 passengers serviced at the Hurghada International Airport, where flight patterns and schedules have remained largely unaffected by the political climate.
Nasr expected negative indicators to increase as long as instability continues, saying calm and improved security were the top factors leading to increases in tourism.
Sami Abd Al-Manam, Director of the Hurghada International Airport, said the airport received 117 flights on Monday, of which 58 were arrivals and 59 were departures. The total number of passengers arriving, he said, stood at 8,000.
