The death toll in Sinai since 30 June has reached 30 dead, 20 of whom were security personnel and 10 civilians, according to Tarek Khater, undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Sinai.
Violence in Sinai has been continuous since 30 June, with unknown assailants carrying out daily attacks on security installations and personnel. 151 were injured, according to Khatar. 102 were security personnel and 49 were civilians.
Mahmoud Al-Sayed Ahmed, a member of the border guard unit in Salam area in Al-Arish, was shot dead on Tuesday by unknown assailants who opened fire on the unit and escaped.
Two people were arrested at a checkpoint in Reesa going from Rafah to Al-Arish when police found a grenade in their vehicle, and were referred for investigations.
Two Palestinians were arrested near the old state security building in Al-Arish, according to a report by state-news agency MENA. Nasser Al-Azzazy, the Daily News Egypt correspondent in Sinai said they were arrested after authorities found pictures of snipers and heavy weapons on their mobile phones.
Gunmen also attacked an army vehicle that was taking water from the main reservoir in Al-Arish and a conscript suffered minor injuries during the attack, reported MENA.
