Minister of culture Mohamed Saber Arab declared the return of a number of people to their positions after they were removed by former minister Alaa Abdel Aziz.
Arab announced on Sunday that all decisions taken by the former minister will be abolished, and all ministry leaders such as Inas Abdel Dayem, former head of the Cairo Opera House, will be reinstated.
“In our sit-in at the opera, we said that we would not give up on anyone who would ruin Egyptian culture, and we did it,” said Opera pianist Mohammed Saleh.
“We had to fight for our freedom against Alaa Abdel Aziz who wanted to demolish culture,” said Saleh, who said all artists at the opera participated in the 30 June protests that led to the fall of ousted president Mohammed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood government.
The ministry of culture has planned events such as dances in the streets, helping those in need, selling books at half price and events that will provide cultural and artistic activities.
“Known artists such as Ali Al-Haggar will be participating in such events,” said Saleh.
