Ambassador Khaled Omara, head of the Egyptian Interests Delegation in Tehran, met with Iranian officials, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Monday.

The meeting is one of many taking place as a part of a larger effort by the foreign ministry to explain to other countries the political developments that are taking place in Egypt, the statement said.

Omara met with Mohamed Abu Taraby Fard, vice-president of the Islamic Shura Council, Alaa El-Din Brugardy, president of the National Security and Foreign Policy Council, and members from the Islamic Shura Council’s Egyptian-Iranian Friendship Association, according to the statement.

Omara also spoke with Ayatollah Araki, a high-ranking official close to the Supreme Guide and the presidency, Ayatollah Ali Taskhari, advisor to the Supreme Guide of the Iranian Revolution and Mohamed Gawad Taskhari, advisor to the Iranian president of cultural affairs, the ministry said.

The ambassador also met with nongovernmental organisations that specialise in regional developments in the Middle East and in particular, Palestine, the statement said.
