Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Ahmed Aref was arrested early Thursday morning, according to the Ministry of Interior.
Aref’s wife, Eman Saafan, wrote on her Facebook page that at “2am 6 police cars arrived with 20 soldiers,” and that Aref was arrested while they were staying at her mother’s household in Nasr City.
Aref’s arrest follows a recent arrest campaign of Muslim Brotherhood leaders and supporters, including the Supreme Guide for the Muslim Brotherhood Mohamed Badie and Safwat Hegazy, a prominent Muslim Brotherhood supporter. Mourad Ali, a media counsellor for the Freedom and Justice party was arrested at the airport.
The arrested brotherhood members have been accused of a variety of charges including incitement of violence and killing of protesters.
