Saad El-Shater, son of Deputy Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Khairat El-Shater, was arrested at his home early Wednesday morning.
El-Shater, 23, was arrested in his Nasr City apartment amidst a wave of arrests targeting Brotherhood leaders and supporters.
His father, Khairat El-Shater, was arrested on 5 July and faces a number of charges including killing protesters, attempted murder and receiving illegal funding. He is currently standing trial with the Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohamed Badie and fellow deputy Rashad Bayoumi. The trial was postponed to 29 October following the first hearing last week.
Ammar Al-Beltagy, son of prominent Brotherhood member Mohamed Al-Beltagy whose daughter was killed during the violent dispersal of Rabba Al-Adaweya, was arrested in Beni Suef and was charged with inciting violence and attacking police stations. However he was released the following day.
Former minister of youth and Brotherhood member Osama Yassin was arrested last Monday and detained for 15 days pending charges of training Muslim Brotherhood members to use weapons. Mohamed Al-Hafez, El-Shater’s secretary, was arrested on the same day.
Yassin was given an additional four days of detention on Wednesday, according to MENA, pending investigations of allegations of incitement to murder and possessions of unlicenced firearms and ammunition, according to state-owned MENA.
Prominent Brotherhood supporter Safwat Hegazy, who was detained following his attempted escape into Libya, was handed 15 days detention on Tuesday on charges of incitement to commit acts of violence and rioting, specifically during violent clashes at Ramses Square.
