Gamal Abdel-Nasser Aqbi, chairman of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation, called on the Ministry of Interior to quickly implement a new programme to help develop and improve security systems being used above the entrances and exits of bank branches. The new system should work to prevent cases of robbery and theft outside branches but also at ATM machines located in public places.
Aqbi called on citizens to be vigilant and to avoid using ATM machines at night, particularly during curfew, and to be wary of criminals and thugs operating in various neighbourhoods.
Bank administrators have called on the Ministry of Interior to install security cameras both in and outside bank branches, and to allow security experts from the ministry to work with and liaise with bank managers. He stated that security guards employed through private companies are largely untrained and unable to effectively combat acts of theft, robbery and terrorism.
Aqbi further stated that it would be necessary to renovate unsecure ATM machines located in public spaces such as malls, saying that such machines should be equipped with advanced types of security in order to prevent acts of theft.
Bank administrators should not underestimate the value of security cameras being installed above bank entrances and exits, Aqbi said, adding that improved security systems would help to increase client and investor confidence, the latter of which often work in bank facilities. Such measures would help build a strong economy, he said, with improved security being the first step towards the development of peace, security and progress within Egypt.
