North Sinai experienced a fresh wave of attacks targeting military and police resulting in the deaths of 2 policemen and injuring nine.
Two buses were transporting Central Security Forces recruits to a central security sector building and one bus came under heavy gunfire by unidentified assailants. The attack left two policemen dead and six injured. The gunmen were chased down the side streets but managed to escape.
In a separate armed attack on the North Sinai security headquarters two soldiers were injured. A source from Al-Arish airport reported that the soldiers were transferred by military plane to a Cairo military hospital. Following the attack the security forces’ presence in the area increased heavily.
Another soldier who was on patrol was also injured when gunmen ambushed a security facility in central Sinai.
Gunmen also opened fire on the Rescue Police headquarters and private residences of some officers in the town of Al-Arish. The assailants opened fire and fled quickly, nobody was injured as a result of the attack.
