The General Authority for Supply Commodities within the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade recently agreed to purchase 180,000 tons of Russian and Romanian wheat in an international bid which took place Friday. The process will begin on 21 October, and will be done over a period of ten days. Russian wheat, priced at $251.80 per ton, will make up 120,000 tons of the total shipment, with shipping costs totaling $11.92 per ton. The remaining 60,000 tons will come from Romania, at a price of $252 per ton, with shipping costs of $11.75 per ton.
Mohamed Abu Shadi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, stated that Egypt imports wheat from a number of nations, including the United States, Russia, Romania, Canada, France and Argentina. He stated that all wheat imported is of the highest quality and lowest price, adding that all shipments entering Egypt are inspected at freight ports by both international corporations and government technical committees.
