For the sixth year, the EU delegation in Egypt is launching its photography competition, “Visions of a Shared Heritage”. The theme this year revolves around the shared heritage and culture between Egypt and Europe.
The competition is open for amateur photographers, who, according to their website, should “reflect on the significance of collective memory within their society and how the past serves to inform the country’s future developments. Contestants are encouraged to explore the subject in all its facets, including different levels of society, moments, figures and events of significance that embody the diversity of, and challenge to, heritage in times of change.”
The competition is also a way to document the heritage of Egypt, which is currently in peril.
According to the website, an expert jury of several prominent figures will evaluate this year’s contributions. Prizes for first place and second place are a SLR Digital Camera and an iPad 4, respectively; winners of the “Mohamed Hassan” prize for best journalistic picture will be awarded a laptop.
The deadline for submissions is 26 October, and more information is available on the website of the Delegation of the European Union to Egypt.
