Minister of Electricity Ahmed Imam stated that within ten days, the final date would be set for the beginning of the tender process for building the first nuclear power plant in the Dabaa area. This will initiate procedures for the launch of the Egyptian nuclear program.

During a press conference that was held on Tuesday after his tour of the North Giza Electric Plant, the minister stated that two groups of experts are currently in Dabaa to determine the site’s infrastructure requirements to bring it up to standard.

He indicated that the project’s international advisor Worley Parsons would arrive in Cairo at the beginning of next month to set the project’s road map in coordination with officials from the Nuclear Plants Authority to ease its passage to the cabinet and the High Council for the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy.

The minister emphasised that the government would not wait for the next parliamentary elections and would begin the tender process immediately after the cabinet and High Council of the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy sanction the project.
