On 19 November, Tahrir Square saw scattered unrest as Egyptians commemorated the anniversary of Mohamed Mahmoud Street clashes. On the same night, Egypt’s national football team faced off against Ghana for the World Cup qualifier match. So as some were protesting and gassed in the square, just a few metres away the downtown cafes were filled with football patrons cheering for their team. Neither ended well, as Egypt lost the match and two lives were claimed in the anniversary’s clashes.
