Egyptian Squash hopes for another victory in Hong Kong Open championship

Egyptian trio Ramy Ashour and Marawan and Mohamed Al-Shorbagy made it through the round of 32 to the round of 16 in the men’s competition in the Hong Kong Open squash championship on Tuesday.

Ashour defeated Malaysian Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan 3-0 in 25 minutes.

Marwan Al-Shorbagy defeated Australian Ryan Cuskell 3-1 in 54 minutes, while his brother Mohamed defeated Leo Au on his home soil 3-0 in 30 minutes.

Four other Egyptian players will play their round of 32 games on Wednesday night, including Amr Shabana, Tarek Mo’men, Karim Abdel Gawad and Omar Abdel Meguid.

In the women’s competition, another Egyptian trio made it to the round of 16.

Raneem Al-Weleily defeated Liu Tsz-ling from Hong Kong 3-0 in 21 minutes.

While Omneya Abdel Kawy defeated South African Siyoli Water 3-1 in 40 minutes. Nour Al-Tayeb also defeated her Indian counterpart Dipika Pallikal 3-0 in 34 minutes.

It was not all victories for the Egyptians however, as Yathreb Adel was defeated by Annie Au from Hong Kong 3-2 in an hour and eight minutes.

Mariam Metwally was also defeated by Madeline Perry from Ireland 3-1 in 30 minutes.

Salma Ibrahim meanwhile lost out to her Australian rival Rachael Grinham 3-0 in 31 minutes.

The Hong Kong Open squash championship is taking place from 1 December to 8 December in two venues, Cathay Pacific and Sun Hung Kai Financial.
