The South Cairo Criminal Court postponed the retrial of the former Minister of Interior Habib El-Adly until 16 January, reported state run news agency MENA.

El-Adly is accused of profiteering and money laundering of EGP 5m during his time as Minister of Interior under former President Hosni Mubarak. He served as minister from 1997 until he was replaced in a cabinet reshuffle during the 2011 uprising against Mubarak. The charges,  according to MENA, concern a period from October 2010 through 7 February 2011.

The former minister is also on trial alongside former president Hosni Mubarak, on charges of failing to prevent the deaths of protesters during the 2011 uprising, which is expected to resume on 14 December.

El-Adly was the longest serving Minister of Interior during Mubarak’s 30 years in office.
