The Luxor Egyptian and European Film Festival chose Egypt’s celebrated poet, Abdel Rahman Al-Abnoudy, as Honorary President for its second edition, which will be held in Luxor in the period between 19 and 25 January 2014.
“The board of directors of the Festival is honored to name Abdel Rahman Al-Abnoudy as its ‘Honorary President’ for the festival’s second edition. Al-Abnoudy has managed to transcend the confines of his profession and become an envoy of the Egyptian persona, and especially for Upper Egyptians. His iconic works has contributed to enriching Upper Egypt’s literary heritage; and his celebrated poetry is a true reflection of the deeply rooted Egyptian values,” commented renowned film director and the Festival President Mohamed El Kalioubi.
“One of the festival’s main goals is to contribute to the cultural and artistic awareness of the people in Upper Egypt. Al-Abnoodi, who is born and raised in Upper Egypt, is also keen to contribute to highlighting the role of art and its impact on human values,” El Kalioubi added.
The Luxor Egyptian & European Film Festival features the most prominent short and long feature films produced in 2012 and 2013. The festival will also highlight Germany’s new cinematography, as well as the ‘Independent’ Egyptian cinema scene. In its second edition, the festival will pay tribute to the Egyptian actor Nour Al-Sherif and Russian director Vladimir Menshov.
