Egypt’s Mohamed Safwat won the title at the Futures 35 men’s tennis tournament after beating Serbia’s Pedja Krstin 2-0 in the final match on 8 December.
Safwat qualified for the finals after defeating Australia’s Jason Kubler in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Krstin progressed on Italy’s Enrico Burzi to become a finalist.
The Mansoura-born player is 23 years old, and started playing tennis at the age of 10.
Safwat and Sherif Sabry were the two quarter finalist Egyptian players; however, Sabry was beaten by Kubler in his quarterfinal match on 6 December.
According to the Ministry of Sports, this is the ninth title for Safwat this year.
The tournament was played in Sharm El-Sheikh’s Soho Square tennis club near the city’s international airport from 3 to 8 December. The qualifying round was held from 30 November to 2 December.
