AFP Socialist Michelle Bachelet was swept back into office Sunday as Chile’s next president, earning 62.59 percent of the vote against rival Evelyn Matthei’s 37.40 percent, with 56 percent of votes tallied, electoral officials said.

Matthei recognized the win by Bachelet who would take office March 11 to succeed conservative billionaire President Sebastian Pinera.
