The streets in the capital have always been an obstacle course, but after a full day of heavy rain the impediments that try to prevent us from getting to our destination took on a very different nature.

As the skies cleared and the sun reappeared, Cairo streets featured brown lakes of water and muddy, soggy patches of blubbery muck. If passing cars did not manage to douse you and your clean jeans with the contents of a nearby puddle, the slippery mud would do its best to have you land on your backside as you scrambled to safety.

As days pass the water starts to disappear but the mud remains, a monumental task is ahead for the street sweepers that attempt to make some inroads into the sticky mess covering the streets. By the time the weekend arrives they should have managed to get rid of most of it. Just in time for the next day of rain that is predicted.
