There is no better time to visit Upper Egypt than in the winter. With gorgeous weather, an upcoming film festival in Luxor, and some of the most hospitable people in Egypt, a river boat trip to the south has never sounded better. An ailing tourism industry means empty temples and beautiful Nile scenery to enjoy on your own without having to worry about lines in front of Karnak or Philae. Pictured here are colourful souvenir Egyptian dolls from the docking station that takes you to the Philae temple. What the picture does not show is the nice people, the beautiful Nile, the warm sun and the wonderful breeze; those you have to see for yourself.
