The Egyptian Premier League kicked off on Tuesday afternoon as Petrojet drew 1-1 with Talaea Al-Geish in the league’s Group B.
The match, which did not allow spectators, was played at the Army Stadium in Suez.
Hesham Abu Khalil scored the league’s first goal for Petrojet when he converted a free kick from left of the penalty box into Talaea Al-Geish’s net in the last minute of the first half.
Talaea Al-Geish then tied the score in the 82nd minute when offender Islam Gamal landed a first-time kick into Petrojet’s net.
Five matches, of which four took place among group B teams, were played on Wednesday afternoon.
Zamalek defeated Al-Masry at Agroud Stadium in Suez 2-0. Ahmed Eid scored from the penalty spot in the 70th minute to win the game for the White Knights.
Former Ismaily striker Ahmed Ali doubled Zamalek’s lead in the 85th minute when he went face to face with Al-Masry’s goalkeeper Ahmed Al-Shennawy, with an assist from teammate Omar Gaber. Ali went around Al-Shennawy and easily scored the ball.
In other matches, Al-Minya surprisingly defeated 2010 Egyptian Cup holders Haras Al-Hodoud 2-1 at Al-Max Stadium in Alexandria.
Ismaily emerged victorious in their Suez Canal match against Al-Qana, defeating the Suez club 2-1 at Ismailia Stadium.
The match between Ittihad El-Shorta and Wadi Degla at the Police Faculty Stadium resulted in a 2-1 win for Ittihad El-Shorta.
The Group A match between Enppi and Arab Contractors at PetroSport stadium in New Cairo ended with a 1-1 draw.
The remaining Group A matches will be played on Thursday. Masr Al-Makasa will meet Al-Gouna at Al-Gouna Stadium in Hurgahda, Al-Dakhlia will meet Al-Mahalla at Air Defense Stadium while Al-Raga’a will meet Alexandrian Al-Ittihad at Al-Max Stadium. Those matches will start at 2pm.
The last match in Group A between Al-Entag Al-Harby and Al-Ahly will take place at Al-Salam Stadium in eastern Cairo at 5pm.
