An army soldier was killed on the road from Arish to Al-Meleez in North Sinai on Saturday.
Ayman Hassan Aly was killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded close to the vehicle he was driving, leading to his death, according to a statement issued by an army spokesman.
The statement added that army forces scanned the area after the explosion and wounded Hussein Salem Hussein, Soliman Al-Menaizy Salama and Yasser Hassaan Soliman, who were fleeing the scene on motorbikes. The trio was described by the statement as having “very dangerous terrorist elements”.
“The injured were transferred to a nearby hospital and will be interrogated,” the statement said.
The Sinai peninsula has been a battlefield between the army and militants since the ousting of former president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July.
