EU delegation to Egypt announces winners of its sixth annual photography competition

The European Union delegation to Egypt has announced the three winners of its sixth EU Photography Competition, entitled “Visions of a Shared Heritage”. Ahmed Mostafa Abdel Atty, won the first prize for his photo titled “Together We Restore Heritage” that was captured in Luxor for a European restoration mission at Karnak Temple. Mahmoud Ahmed Hassab Allah Moslem, a law graduate, received the second prize for his photo titled ‘Reflections of a City’ from Cairo. The third prize was awarded to Nada Mohamed Mahrous Farrag, a graphic designer for her photo ‘Shared Tranquillity”.

Earlier, the jury committee met and examined carefully all entries of the competition and chose the best 12 photographs. These chosen photos are included in the delegation’s 2014 desk calendar.

Ambassador James Moran, head of European Union Delegation to Egypt, will host a reception on Monday 17 February 2014 to award the winners their prizes and certificates and display the framed photographs.

Participants were encouraged to submit their entries reflecting shared European and Egyptian heritage, ranging from performing arts and street culture to architectural achievements and community life, in line with the theme of the competition.

Jury members: Dr. Monica Hanna an expert in Egyptology and Archaeological Chemistry, Dr. Yasser Elshayeb who is an Associate Professor of Engineering at Cairo University and is also responsible for the Coordination, Promotion, and Dissemination and Monitoring of TEMPUS activities in Egypt, and Mr. Luis Pedro Costa Gomes, a Portuguese professional photographer based in Cairo.
