Two homemade explosive devices were thrown at a police checkpoint on Friday morning injuring four on duty policemen.
A Ministry of Interior press office official confirmed that the homemade devices were thrown at a checkpoint and exploded on the Giza Bridge.
One officer, a non-commissioned officer and two conscripts were injured in the attack. No arrests have been made.
Explosive experts arrived at the scene to carry out investigations into the incident.
This is the latest in a series of attacks targeting security personnel or infrastructure. On Thursday a police captain was shot dead in Ismailia after being hijacked and held at gunpoint by armed men, according to the interior ministry.
On 24 January four explosions in the Greater Cairo area left six people dead and dozens injured. Militant groups Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis and Agnad Misr claimed responsibility for the bombings, highlighting in the statements that security forces were the intended targets.
Towards the end of January Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis also claimed responsibility for the shooting down of a military helicopter and the assassination of the head of the Ministry of Interior’s technical office, Mohamed Al-Saied.
