The Dokki Prosecution released on Sunday nine detainees arrested during the third anniversary of the 2011 revolution on an EGP 1,000 bail.
The prosecution renewed the detention of 22 more detainees arrested from the same group in Dokki for 15 more days, reported the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE).
Preventively detained for over a month, the group is accused of “protesting without a notice, attacking security officials and joining a terrorist group,” AFTE said.
Fifty-seven were initially arrested and taken to the Dokki Police Station on 25 January. Last week, the prosecution released 20 detainees on an EGP 1,000 bail.
Over 1,000 protesters were arrested during demonstrations marking the third anniversary of the revolution. They were divided into different groups based on the locations of their arrest. Their detention conditions have been condemned by several human rights organisations, including Amnesty International. The Ministry of Interior, however, denied torture allegations reported by those who had been preventively detained.
On Wednesday, the Maadi Misdemeanour Court sentenced 12 protesters arrested in Maadi on 25 January to two years in prison and fined eight more between EGP 50,000 and EGP 100,000. Prosecution charged the Maadi detainees with assembling, protesting without a permit and displaying force.
