In the next three months, 71% of Egypt’s companies are planning to create up to 10 new job positions each, activating the job market and forming opportunities for fresh graduates and first-time employees, according to the Job Index Survey conducted by Bayt.com, the Middle East’s top job website, and the international research organisation YouGov .
In the next year, 62% of Egyptian companies expect to hire, compared to 68% of companies based in the Middle East and North Africa region. Fifty-one percent of Egypt’s companies hired new job seekers in the last six months, Bayt.com and YouGov reported.
Thirty percent of Egypt’s employers are looking for candidates with commerce qualifications, while 35% prefer candidates with managerial background, 31% prefer computer skills, and 32% prefer sales and marketing experience.
Egypt’s job seekers are not greatly searching for local job opportunities, with just 25% of respondents stating that the country is “more attractive” than other countries, according to the survey.
The survey, which was conducted between December 2013 and February 2014, asked 3,137 respondents, 2,729 of whom were employed.
During the fourth quarter of 2013, more than 3 million Egyptians were unemployed, marking a 57.3% increase from the same quarter in 2010, and a 0.5% from the preceding quarter, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
