An explosion took place at a house in the Shatoura village in Sohag on Saturday night, where 10 were reported dead and 37 injured, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
The fire department extinguished the fire, keeping it from spreading to neighbouring houses. The interior ministry announced that the owner of the house had been illegally storing gas and diesel to sell in the black market.
A fire started in some of the containers, and when residents of the area headed to the house to extinguish the fire, an explosion occurred once it had reached the area where the barrels of petroleum were stored.
