The first interview with former army chief-turned presidential candidate Al-Sisi was viewed by a majority of Egyptians. While some saw it in the air-conditioned comfort of their own home, on a street in downtown Cairo, it was displayed on a makeshift screen for anyone who happened to pass by.
In true Cairene fashion, patrons stood around to listen to the interview, catch up on each other’s news, simply drive by or stock up on watermelons.
