Internet and mobile internet services were temporarily severed nationwide on Tuesday due to a fire in a communication cable, the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) stated.
The Egyptian Stock Market (EGX) said in a statement the outage was caused by damage to a communication cable linking the Cairo and Alexandria governorates.
EGX noted the outage affected online trading operations, decreasing the day’s online trades by 18%.
Overall trading operations in the bourse decreased 33% on Tuesday, with59% of the bourse operations conducted electronically, according to EGX’s Information Technology department.
